Art Show & Rituals: Foster the People

Hello Folks!

I’m getting excited to head to Toronto next week for my art show. All my pieces have been packaged and are ready to be shipped out.

It was nice to see a rough assembly of the Foster the People shoot. There’s some amazing footage that fans will love.

Tomorrow is around the clock meetings for my film. Everything is coming together.

Don’t party too hard tonight.

MATT SMILEY’s website is expanding

Dear Friends,

As I prepare a few art shows in Los Angeles, Canada and France, I wanted to create an open environment for you to be able to follow and comment on my creative process. I will also keep you up to date on current events and the development of my first feature film as a writer/director that I want to shoot this summer in Northern British Columbia.

Wishing you all the best,

I’ve attempted to write a few blogs over the last three years, but I’ve always ended up deleting what I wrote as I felt most of it was boring. I needed a purpose to write. And what that purpose was, is still a mystery to me, but I want to explore another writing medium aside from short stories, novels and screenwriting. There’s a ton of stories floating around my head and most of the time, they’re not worthy of a script, so maybe this is just the place to share them. Plus, it may just be fun to recount my adventures as I tackles new projects and make new friends along the way.

On Saturday, I flew back from Guadalajara Mexico where I was producing a show on Foster the People for Thrash Labs. I had never been to Guadalajara, so I was pretty excited for the trip. Plus, I knew I was in for a fun adventure with the band and my friend Brinton who was directing the episode.

We shot some fantastic footage that I’m excited to see edited and roll out to the public in the coming weeks. As we get closer to launching, I will keep you posted with updates, video snippets and behind the scenes footage.

This week, I’m focused on preparing for my art show that will run from April 6 to May 16 in Toronto. Aside from my entire street smelling like spray paint, I’m pumped to ship off my work and see what kind of response I get. I have never shared photos of my work online, but I will be releasing a few pictures in April.

Please enjoy this website as I continue to toy around with the design and the idea of making it much more of an interactive experience once I get enough material uploaded. It’s still in the concept phase.

Best wishes.

Stairs to Hollywood Sign

I live just down the street from the Hollywood sign, so whenever I’m in town, my daily routine consists of waking up and taking my dog River for a hike through the mountains, or to the stairs. This morning I opted for the stairs. Man, if you haven’t done it in a while, your body certainly fells the workout. As I write this, River is passed out by the door and will most likely be there for the next hour or so, before he’s ready to do it all over again.

My hands are still covered in paint my spray session yesterday. I’m hoping to get a few more pieces done today, so I can start shipping them to Canada for my show. I will post one picture by the end of the week to give you a sneak peek of the work to be included in the show.

In the next few blogs, I will slowly build towards tackling some deeper subjects that may be of interest to readers. I’m pretty sure no one wants to read about what I had for breakfast, who I had dinner with and how fast I can climb stairs. I will however begin to document the early stages of a film I am preparing to shoot in British Columbia this summer. I plan to simultaneously film a documentary based on the movie’s subject.

I just picked up a book off my shelf by John C. Maxwell “Make Today Count: the secret of your success is determined by your daily agenda”. I’ve started to read it and wanted to share the positive attitude. Here are some words that I will attempt to incorporate into my vocabulary today:

– I can

– I will

– I know

– I will make the time

– Absolutely

– I’m confident

– I’m sure

Don’t forget to do something creative today!
